Abstract |
This data set spatially depicts commercial fishing blocks for the Tasmanian rock lobster, giant crab and scallop fisheries. Information is stored in selectable area polygons showing fishing block numbers. The base data is currently held in GDA 94 geographic datum (i.e., Latitude and Longitude).
These fishing blocks were introduced to commercial fishing logbooks in 2007. Commercial fishers submit their catch and effort data to the Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment (DPIPWE) for management, research and stock assessment purposes. The fisheries research is conducted by the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies (IMAS). |
Lineage Description |
The data was originally created for use in the commercial Rock Lobster Fishery Catch, Effort & Disposal logbooks and uses non-standard Tasmanian coastline.
The base data is currently held in GDA 94 geographic datum (i.e. Latitude and Longitude). As such, discrepancies will be apparent when used with standard (eg LIST) data sets. The spatial boundaries were interpreted from textual descriptions of restricted areas and are only meant to be indicative. The base data is currently held in GDA 94 geographic datum (i.e. Latitude and Longitude).
POSITION ACCURACY: Due to the lineage of the data an accuracy measure cannot be applied to this data except in very general terms. The position of any one boundary depicted in the spatial data may be up to 250 metres from the actual boundary. This layer should currently only be used for illustrative or indicative purposes, or very carefully used for spatial querying.
