This dataset indicates parts of the State road network that are subject to declarations of Limited Access. The information used to define this has been obtained from current proclamations of Limited Access made in accordance with Part IVA section 52A of the Roads and Jetties Act 1935. The main purpose of declaring a State road to be a Limited Access road is to enhance road safety and efficiency. A property that has a common boundary with a Limited Access roads may have no direct access to that road as a result of the declaration, or, if it has an existing direct access, use of that access may be subject to a conditional licence. Provision of a conditional licence is usual practice for private accesses and are granted in accordance with provisions of the Act. Property access may also be gained to a Limited Access road via a proclaimed place of access, generally a public road, use of which is not subject to conditions of use under the Act.

The dataset was created from declarations of Limited Access made under the provisions of Part IVA section 52A of the Roads and Jetties Act 1935; the proclamations are administered in the Department of State Growth. Network Planning in the State Roads Division of the Department holds paper and electronic copies of all the relevant Statutory Rules (proclamations). The spatial base data was sourced from TheLIST Transport Segments. Each section of the named Limited Access road was selected spatially in ArcGIS (from the sources above) then classified accordingly. The Statutory Rules and descriptions of the declared Limited Access roads were then categorised by the Statutory Rules, Schedule 1 and 2 descriptions, and given attributes from the most recent information available.

Positional Accuracy: Data is sourced from LIST Transport Segments and positional accuracy inherited from this data. Nominally this is +/-10m in rural areas and +/-2m in urban areas. Attribute accuracy: Attributes are expected to be 95% correct. Any errors should be reported to DSG. Logical Consistency: As per LIST Transport Segments data model. Some small inconsistencies are possible because of the 'selection method' used to create the data set. Completeness: The dataset covers all of mainland Tasmania.
