Abstract |
The Land Tenure data set contains a representation of the commonly accepted land tenure classifications for Tasmania.
Tenure Classifications include Crown Land, Private Land, Local Government and other Statutory Authority Land, Reserved Land, Conservation Covenants, Private Reserves, Permanent Timber Production Zone Land (formerly State Forest). Future Potential Production Forest (FPPF) land is also distinguished where it overlaps Crown and HEC land.
This dataset depicts the full extent of classifications and as some or coastal reserve boundaries extend to Low Water Mark, and in some cases include areas of estuary or sea. These classifications generally conform to those represented on the TASMAP Land Tenure Map. |
Lineage Statement |
The Land Tenure dataset is generated on a weekly basis, using an automated process, from the following LIST spatial layers: Cadastral Parcels, Public Land Classification, FPPF, Private Reserves and Local Government Act Reserves. During this process, overlaps between layers have been eliminated. Some generalisation of categories has occurred during processing to give priority in depiction where overlaps exist. There are some instances where a valid overlap occurs and in these cases they are depicted as a distinct class. These include HEC Conservation Areas and Local Government (LGA) Conservation areas. |
Lineage Description |
Position Accuracy:
Boundaries have been derived from existing layers within the LIST Cadastral Area and will adapt the positional accuracy of these parcels.
Attribute Accuracy:
It is estimated that not less that 99% of all attributes are correct.
Logical Consistency:
Polygons are all attributed with their Tenure Classification (TENURE_CLASS); Feature names where assigned (FEAT_NAME) and the Act under which they have been proclaimed (ACT).
Polygons generally will not be overlapping.
Completeness:
The Land Tenure Dataset is complete for all reserve categories and most of the other categories. Road Casements are not complete in rural areas. As this is a derived dataset, users should refer to the layers from which this data has been derived for confirmation of the actual status. Macquarie Island is not included in this dataset.
Additional:
Users should be aware that generation of statistics from this data may not provide an accurate figure due to the omission of Macquarie Island, and that many reserves include areas of water. Due to the overlapping nature of many of these classifications and due to the difference between the GIS area and the proclaimed area of reserves. Users must not create statistics derived from this data without seeking prior permission and advice from Land Tasmania, DPIPWE. |
