The LIST Land District Boundaries data set contains those 20 Land Districts that divide Tasmania into administrative areas used when defining the granting and derivation of land. Land Districts were formerly known as Counties. A Land District may contain a number of Parishes with those Parish boundaries forming the Land District boundary. Land Districts may still be referred to on Land Titles relating to the derivation of the land.

Land districts were originally portrayed on hard copy working Land District (County) charts with no formal definition of those areas. Boundaries were digitally obtained by reference to these charts and interpreted using digital map derived topographic detail and the remaining visible grant boundaries from the development of the State's cadastre. No Quality Assurance, verification or subsequent work has been undertaken on this data since compiled in 1993.

Position Accuracy: LIST Land District Boundaries may be regarded as being an indicative portrayal only. There will be significant discrepancies with cadastral and topographic datasets where boundaries were intended to align. Attribute Accuracy: Land District Name Attributes are correct. Logical Consistency: Land District Boundaries are regions and are attributed with a Land District name. This dataset will not align to the Cadastral Parcels or Topographic datasets. Completeness: The LIST Land District Boundaries data set is complete, although not verified. No updating has been, or is intended to be, undertaken since the original compilation of this dataset.
